Integration på svenska

Work Package 1 focuses on rights in integration for a language minority through a policy- and practice perspective. In this package, national legislation and policy documents related to linguistic rights are analyzed, with the goal of identifying gaps and needs concerning access to linguistic and cultural diversity. The work package will also scrutinize relevant legislation that regulates the status of the migrant, concerning their opportunities to integrate. 

This work package is led by Professor Elina Pirjatanniemi at Åbo Akademi in cooperation with doctoral researcher Elina Sagne-Ollikainen.

Work Package 2 examines experiences of integration in Swedish language at the local policy level. We study how municipal guidelines and practices influence the opportunities of students with an immigrant background to enter Swedish-medium comprehensive schools and integrate in Swedish.

The research data consists of interviews with municipal education authorities, school principals, local decision-makers and experts in immigration and integration work. In addition, analyzing relevant documents, such as curricula and municipal decisions is included in this work package.

This work package is led by Professor Sari Pöyhönen from the University of Jyväskylä in cooperation with postdoctoral researcher Tuuli From and research assistant Tuuni Tyni.

Work Package 3 investigates integration in Swedish language at comprehensive education by examining different integration policies. The goal is to understand the policies of different schools in the context of integration. The research material consists of interviews with guardians, teachers and other school staff, as well as observations of everyday school life in different schools.

This work package is led by senior lecturer Jenni Helakorpi in cooperation with the entire project's leader Professor Fritjof Sahlström and research assistant Silja Lipponen.
