Project description
The project is funded by the Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation. The research project is led by the University of Helsinki, with participation from the University of Jyväskylä, Åbo Akademi University, and MAOL. The Math Buzz initiative aims to enhance the accessibility and appeal of learning mathematical skills for all children, and to make mathematical content available to as many children as possible.
The Math Buzz research project explores how research-based pedagogical approaches that utilise movement and play support the development of children’s mathematical skills, as well as their attitudes and perceptions towards mathematics. The project also examines how these approaches influence the knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs of the adults working with children. In addition, the project focuses on developing accessible learning materials designed for diverse user groups to support children’s mathematical learning.
The research further investigates how different forms of outreach, such as training sessions and family-oriented activities, can be used to reach groups that do not typically participate in mathematics-related activities.
