Project description

The TeamHub! project brings together universities, research institutes and trade unions from nine EU countries to jointly address the complexities and challenges of e-commerce supply chains, especially with regard to storage and delivery activities, through a set of desk and field research activities, training, networking and development of policy recommendations.

Objectives of TeamHub! research

Attention will be given to the working conditions and needs of logistics and e-commerce workers, the current and potential business strategies, the possible initiatives by trade unions and political decision-makers aimed at shaping the future of the working activities most affected by e-commerce developments. The aim of the project is to analyse the implications of the e-commerce boom, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic, and to equip trade unions with the knowledge and skills necessary to propose a sustainable reshaping of business models and work organization in the supply chain, also in view of the digital revolution and environmental sustainability objectives.

Core phases in research

In particular, after desk research meant to review and analyse existing information and data, the project’s core phases entail case studies on business models, union practices and collective bargaining in the e-commerce supply chain, plus a set of national and EU-level events and workshops where workers, unionists, researchers and stakeholders will discuss: workers’ needs and aspirations, current working conditions and business strategies, possible initiatives by labour unions and policy makers to shape the future of logistics activities most affected by e-commerce developments. A final phase entails a summary and critical revision of the project’s findings to elaborate a final comparative report including policy recommendations.
