The UNESCO Chair on Digital Platforms for Transforming Economies is hosted by LUT University and focuses on supporting digital transformation in Africa. The Chair works to reduce poverty, enhance access to digital education and health services, and strengthen inclusive innovation for sustainable development.

The University of Jyväskylä (JYU) provides local support to the Chair through the Finnish Institute for Educational Research. As part of this role, JYU contributes expertise in educational innovation, international collaboration, and sustainability in digital learning environments.

What We Do

As part of the Chair’s international network, JYU’s local support team contributes to:

  • Educational Innovation for Digital Transformation – linking sustainability and digitalisation in learning environments
  • Capacity Building in Africa–Europe Partnerships – supporting doctoral training, joint research, and double-degree programmes
  • Research on Digital Inclusion and Wellbeing – exploring the ethical, social, and cultural impacts of AI and digital platforms
  • Community and Policy Engagement – co-creating strategies with schools, universities, and local stakeholders to ensure fair access to digital opportunities
