The stone staircase from the corner of the Musica building up to Seminaarinharju ridge is one of the oldest surviving green structures in the Seminaarinmäki area. The stairs can already be seen in the map drawings made of the area in the 1890s.

During the time of the Jyväskylä Teacher Seminary, the female students of Seminaarinmäki studied and lived here, at the eastern end of the area, and the male students at the western end of the area. The stairs were probably built to make it easier for female students to get to Moirislampi pond, located on the other side of the ridge. Moirislampi pond was a popular leisure place for students living in the seminary area. The stairs were also a popular location for taking photos.
