Terms of use
Authorized users
The licensed material may be used by authorized users: students and members of staff and faculty. Access through Haka authentication via university log-in. When you are signed in to the service, you will find all the usable standards in the section with your own username. In there is a tab called "My products".
Permitted use
Students have the righ to
- browse, search and read the licensed material
- remotely access the material.
Academic staff and employees of the university may
- browse and search standards, print them, save copies and give single standards to other academic staff and employees for the purposes of training, planning or other production work in the organization
- take a reasonable number of photocopies of a part of an individual printed standard
- distribute extracts from individual standards to students
- distribute single copies of individual items of the licensed material in incidental and non-systematic manner in print or electronic form to colleagues whether authorized users or not, for the purposes of scientific research and communication
- publicly display or publicly perform parts of the licensed material as part of a presentation at a seminar, conference, or workshop, or other such similar activity
The use of the Open University in teaching is included in the permitted use.
In addition to the above, teaching staff may use excerpts (up to 20% or 20 pages) from individual standards in electronic or printed form in teaching and research material packages.
All copies of the standards and/or any other material shall contain the same copyright, trademark and other entries as the original copies of the standard.
Prohibited use
- Standards must not be modified.
- Standards or their copies may not be disclosed outside the University of Jyväskylä in any form, e.g. a student may not use the standards in a workplace outside the University of Jyväskylä.
- No copies of the standards may be made for private use or other personal purposes.
- A copy of the standard may not be disclosed, for example, as an attachment to a request for an offer, an offer or any marketing material.
- Services related to or based on standards (e.g. access service or service center service) may not be provided to third parties without the prior written consent of SFS.
Subject to mandatory legislation, the use of standards for text and data mining without the prior written permission of SFS is prohibited. The development or training of artificial intelligence with the content of standards, or part thereof, is prohibited. Nor may the standard, or any part thereof, be copied, downloaded, or entered into any AI-based tool, application, program, or similar without the prior written permission of SFS. The use of AI-based tools for standard analysis is not permitted without separate prior written permission from SFS. SFS reserves all of its retainable rights to text and data mining of the content of the standards.
Further instructions for students
- In thesis projects, a maximum of 20% of the content or 20 pages can be borrowed from a single standard. Borrow the part of tables or images of standards that you need (not the whole table or picture as such) and cite the standard source reference. Always cite the source you are using appropriately. In case of doubt or if you need more information about using or citing standards, please contact SFS directly.
- Standards may not be attached as an appendix to a thesis project.
- If the thesis project is done on behalf of the company, you may not hand over standards from the online service of the educational institution to the client.
Please also note that the above AI prohibitions also apply to student use of standards.
