The summer school gathers students of natural sciences and information technology from all over the world to study in Jyväskylä in 5–16 August.

Social Programme for Jyväskylä Summer School

Social activities are a good counterbalance for the intensive academic work. Enjoy Finnish sauna, get to know the city of Jyväskylä, and create unforgettable memories with your fellow summer school participants!

Our social programme will enable you to make valuable contacts with fellow summer school participants, have fun, and enjoy the summer in Jyväskylä to the fullest! We highly recommend you to take part in the social programme in order to make the most of your summer school experience.

The social programme includes opening events and a farewell party. Summer School participants will also get a chance to try the Finnish sauna and get to know other students and the Jyväskylä region through various activities, like get-togethers, excursions, picnics, cultural evenings etc. The social programme is open to all Summer School students and lecturers. Most of the social programme is free of charge, but some events including food and drink are subject to a participation fee.

The University of Jyväskylä reserves the right to make changes to the programme.

More things to do in Jyväskylä

Jyväskylä is situated in the heart of the beautiful Finnish lake district. Central Finland’s varied nature is present all around the city and attracts people with different interests all year round. The Jyväskylä region includes four national parks and plenty of well-marked nature trails. The beauty of the Lakeland Region's nature is easily accessible, even in the greenery of the city center and the University campuses.

In addition to the social programme of the Summer School, there are a lot of happenings in Jyväskylä. Go and see museums, join guided tours, explore Alvar Aalto’s architecture, visit a Finnish baseball game or enjoy music provided in many summer events. You may also enjoy the summer by having a picnic in a park, playing outdoor games on fields or swimming in the lakes.

Visit the Seminaarinmäki campus
In April 2022, The European Commission awarded the European Heritage Label to the JYU Seminaarinmäki campus. This represents the first European Heritage Label in Finland. The Seminaarinmäki campus includes buildings from the late 19th century until the present day and the architects of the area include Alvar Aalto, Constantin Kiseleff, Arto Sipinen as well as Lahdelma & Mahlamäki Oy. The campus was awarded with the European Heritage Label because it emphasizes the importance of the Finnish and European education system as a basis for democratic and equal society.
