In the free workshop specialist Teemu Leppänen (University of Jyväskylä) tells more about what 3D printing is and how it works, and presents examples of how to use it. There are 3D printed parts and a printer on display, and the participants can get to know these in more detail. At the end of the workshop the participants can try 3D printing in practice in small groups in which they plan a small 3D model with a CAD program. We will print out one part from a digital model. Note that you don't need any prior IT skills, but the group work will be guided.
In 3D printing a physical model is printed from a digital model layer by layer. At the moment plastic is the most used material, but materials like metal, ceramics and glass can also be 3D printed. The technology can be used for example for manufacturing spectacle frames, miniature models of buildings and medical prothesis. The benefits of 3D printing, on contrary with traditional manufacturing methods, include quick start of manufacturing, the manufacturing of complicated parts and easy changes to the model.
Max. 20 participants. Please register by 16.1. at the latest.
