The possible application areas for spectral cameras are various: for example medicine (skin cancer), agriculture and forestry, and environment (the moisture of turf, the diseases and condition of crops, the condition of waters, the diseases of trees), food industry (distinguishing rotten foodstuffs, counterfeit raw material), different industrial processes (coatings and their smoothness/coverage, quality control of saw industry products, faults, impurities), arts (counterfeits and such researches), crime scene investigation (blood traces) and geology (observation of minerals).
For now the cameras and methods are mainly expensive and "difficult" enough that many methods are still on research level, and devices are found mostly in research organizations. Everything is developing, however; the methods are becoming more reliable, the prices are going down and the technology is developing. As a result there will be more possible applications and finally even consumer products.
The event will be held in the facilities of Senop Oy in Lievestuore and it is organized in Finnish. Senop develops sensor systems for the needs of defense and safety officials, and spectral cameras are also part of their offering. The specialists in the event include docent Ilkka Pölönen and Ph.D. Anna-Leena Erkkilä from the University of Jyväskylä. Pölönen will present the basics of spectral imaging and Erkkilä will tell more about the applications of spectral cameras.
The event is free of charge, registration is asked due to coffee service.
