Mechanical Based Analysis and Analytical Modelling of Dynamical Behaviour of Moving Elastic and Viscoelastic Webs

Modeling moving paper webs mathematically

The project focused on mathematical modelling of the dynamics and instability phenomena of moving paper webs. The aim was to develop and test analytical and semi-analytical solutions for the behaviour of a paper web moving between two rollers. The project applied both analytical and semi-analytical approaches and analytically showed in the framework of dynamical instability analysis that the critical instability of an orthotropic, elastic, pinned-free plate is of the static type (divergence). A semi-analytical approach was developed to efficiently obtain the dynamical response of a travelling elastic panel submerged in both stationary and axially flowing ideal fluid. The dynamical response was then computed numerically by applying a spectral Galerkin method to the obtained integro-differential hydroelastic equation.

The project was realized in 2011-2014, lasting for four years. Some of ALADDIN's current projects continue to work on similar topics.
