Doctoral studies: Conditional admission decision

The instructions are valid during the 2026 admission rounds to doctoral programmes at JYU.

If you receive a conditional admission decision, carefully read the instructions accompanying the decision. A conditional admission decision means that you have not yet been admitted to the doctoral programme. To be admitted, you must show that the reason for the conditional admission decision has been removed.

A conditional selection decision may be based on one of the following:

  • The degree that provides your eligibility to apply for the studies has not yet been awarded. The degree must be awarded by 31 July 2026 (spring application) or 15 December 2026 (autumn application). Submit the educational documents of the awarded degree to the University of Jyväskylä by 10 August 2026 (spring 2026 application) or 22 December 2026 (autumn 2026 application). If your degree is from JYU, we will receive information about the award of your degree directly from the study register.
  • You are eligible to apply based on your educational documents, but you have not supplied the officially certified copies of these documents and their possible translations following the application guidelines. Submit officially certified copies to the University of Jyväskylä by 31 July 2026 (spring application) or 15 December 2026 (autumn application).
  • You have been selected for a language skill evaluation during the application process (ACRES) but have not yet passed the assessment. The ACRES assessment must be passed by 31 July 2026 (spring application) or 15 December 2026 (autumn application). We will be informed of the result of the ACRES assessment directly by the Centre for Multilingual Academic Communication.

The educational documents must be received by the University of Jyväskylä by the above-mentioned dates. Documents sent by post must be officially certified, and those sent electronically must be electronically verifiable.

You can accept the offered study place as soon as you receive your conditional admission decision.

You can register at the university after you have followed the instructions in the conditional admission decision and you have been informed about your admission to the doctoral programme.

If the reason for a conditional admission decision cannot be considered to have been removed by the given deadline, the conditional admission decision is cancelled and you will lose your study place.

More information about conditional admission decisions is available in the faculty-specific instructions below.
