Doctoral studies: How to submit the documents

The instructions are valid during the 2026 admission rounds to doctoral programmes at JYU.

PDF copies

Upload the required attachments as PDF files to Studyinfo.fi. At least the following documents must be attached to your application:

  • research plan
  • doctoral study plan
  • degree certificate
  • transcript of records

You may also be required to include other attachments with your application. Please upload these as PDF files to your application in Studyinfo.fi:

  • official translations of your degree certificate and transcript of records
  • a language test certificate
  • a scientific publication or research report that demonstrates the same competencies as a grade good for the thesis
  • faculty-specific documents

After the application has been submitted, it is possible to upload documents on the online application until the end of the application period.

Please note that, in addition to uploading a PDF copy of your educational document, you may also be required to submit a paper copy by post, an electronic copy via a verification service, or an electronic copy sent directly from the educational institution via email.

Educational documents on paper

Send officially certified paper copies of your educational documents by post or courier service. Before sending educational documents on paper, please read carefully the instructions about official certification of educational documents.

If you are completing or have completed your degree at the University of Jyväskylä or another Finnish university or university of applied sciences, please refer to the country-specific requirements for Finland.

It is always the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the application documents arrive at the University of Jyväskylä before the application deadline. This is also the case if the documents arrive directly from the awarding institution. The admission decisions are made as scheduled, even if there is a delay caused by a third party, such as the post office, courier service, or customs.

Electronic educational documents

Submit electronic educational documents through a recognised verification service or by email from the issuing institution. Before sending electronic educational documents, please read carefully the instructions about official certification of educational documents.

All documents submitted electronically must be verifiable with a high degree of reliability. Electronic documents may be accepted only if there is no country-specific requirement or if the requirement specifically permits electronic documents.
