What will the city of the future look like, one that rises to the challenges posed by climate change and the loss of biodiversity?
Landscape architecture students at Aalto University were given a unique opportunity: to take part in drawing up an urban nature plan based on the EU Biodiversity Strategy, in collaboration with the City of Jyväskylä. The course delved into the diversity of urban green spaces, the development of ecological networks, and the coexistence of humans and other species in an urban environment.
The course utilised systems thinking, constructed alternative scenarios for the future and developed visions for the future development of urban green spaces in Jyväskylä across various urban settings. The course work was research-based, experimental and strongly site-specific.
The exhibition is in Finnish and open from 10 September to 28 November 2026. The Exhibition Centre Soihtu on Seminaarinmäki is open on weekdays from Wednesday to Friday, 12 noon to 5 pm, and on Saturdays, 12 noon to 4 pm.
