Biological and Environmental Science Seminar 12.11.2026

Biological and Environmental Seminar by Postdoctoral Researcher Quentin Devresse from University of Jyväskylä on the topic "Carbon fixation and nitrogen assimilation at the single-cell level in diatoms".

Open to everyone interested. The event offers a great opportunity to learn, share ideas, and connect with colleagues across disciplines. Welcome!

Coffee will be served at 1:45 PM before the seminar - come early to grab a cup and mingle!
The seminar will be held at Ylistönrinne, where the Department of Biological and Environmental Science is located.

I am a microbial biogeochemist; I aim to understand how microorganisms shape global biogeochemical cycles to elucidate “who do what”. I did a PhD at Geomar (Kiel, Germany) where I studied how cyclonic eddies from North-West Africa affect organic matter turnover in the ocean. After that, I did a postdoc at the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde where I studied the difference in carbon and nitrogen assimilation by different genera of diatoms (topic of the present talk). At JYU I am involved in the DarkLady project, investigating how lakes brownification changes the ionome and the transfer of essential fatty acid within the foodweb.
