Jon Ågren is visiting our department from Uppsala University, Sweden. He will talk about "Ecology and evolution of plant adaptation"
TEASER:An understanding of the ecological and genetic mechanisms governing plant adaptation to environmental conditions is of fundamental interest in evolutionary biology, but also for meeting the challenges of global change in applied fields such as conservation biology and plant breeding. In my lab, we integrate ecological and genomic approaches in field and lab experiments to explore the functional and the genetic basis of plant adaptation. The overarching aim is to link ecological factors that contribute to divergent natural selection to the genetic mechanisms of adaptive evolution. In this talk, I will discuss approaches and results from our studies of the outcrossing, short-lived perennial herb Primula farinosa and of natural populations of the plant model organism, the selfing annual Arabidopsis thaliana.
