Hybrid workshop: Feminist Approaches to Esports

In the workshop we will discuss 'key' feminist texts, and how they can be applied to our own research on esports. The goal of the workshop then is to develop a feminist esports research manifesto that accounts for the disciplinary variety in the room and will help guide our future research practices.

We are organizing a workshop with which we hope to bring feminist approaches and esports closer together. Inspired by our shared enthusiasm of feminist texts by the likes of Sara Ahmed, and encouraged by the ongoing feminist work in the field of esports, we want to delve deeper in the question “How can we think of esport research differently?” With this in mind, in the workshop we will discuss 'key' feminist texts, and how they can be applied to our own research on esports. The goal of the workshop then is to develop a feminist esports research manifesto that accounts for the disciplinary variety in the room and will help guide our future research practices.

If you wish to participate, we kindly ask you to fill in this Google form: https://forms.gle/KserWfW8eXqBYSxN8

The registration closes 30.9.2024. We do not expect any original work to be submitted by participants, and we invite scholars of all backgrounds interested in developing feminist research methods. The form includes space to suggest readings and topics for the workshop. We will share the texts and topics with participants in the first week of October. The workshop will be held hybrid from Jyväskylä, Finland at the University of Jyväskylä on November 1st, 13:00-17:00 Eastern European Time (EET). We hope to see many of you, either in Jyväskylä or online!

 Best wishes,

Maria Ruotsalainen and Tom Legierse
