Multi-scale muscle remodeling in cerebral palsy: active–passive interplay across scales

Muscle remodeling in cerebral palsy is a multi-scale phenomenon. Changes at the protein and sarcomere level propagate to muscle composition, stiffness, and ultimately muscle–tendon function and movement. The goal of this seminar is to integrate experimental and modeling perspectives across scales, from sarcomeres to whole muscle–tendon function, and to discuss how this knowledge can advance both mechanistic understanding and clinical practice.

Program

10:00 – 10:30 (25min+5 min discussion) - Francesco Cenni. What do we know about multi-scale muscle remodelling in cerebral palsy? Overview of my current project

10:30 – 11:00 (25min+5min discussion) - Walter Herzog. Structural and functional changes of skeletal muscles in children with cerebral palsy

11:00 – 11:30 (25min+5min discussion) - Kaat Desloovere. Macro- and microscopic muscle size and compositional parameters of skeletal muscles in children with spastic cerebral palsy

11:30-12:00 Open discussion guided by moderators.

Possible questions: what are the main unknown across scales in CP muscle remodeling? What are the current experimental and conceptual limitations? Do we have the right technology to address these questions?
