In this self-guided workshop for the whole family, participants navigate from one activity station to the next throughout the exhibition at the Soihdu Exhibition Center. Tasks include building with Fröbel blocks, practicing the alphabet on a slate, and figuring out what’s inside Uno Cygnaeus’s suitcase.
You can participate in the workshop at your own pace during the museum’s opening hours. The workshop offers a fun way to learn about the history of schooling.
Jyväskylä Teacher Seminary was founded in Jyväskylä over 160 years ago. Male and female students who studied at the college graduated as elementary school teachers and practiced teaching at the Seminary’s school. At the school, students aged 5–15 attended elementary school and studied many subjects, such as Finnish, arithmetic, handicrafts, and gymnastics—and these same subjects are also explored in the workshop.
