Exhibition Centre Soihtu and and Tissari Art Collection are located in Seminarium Building.

The Exhibition Centre Soihtu provides you an introduction to the history of the University of Jyväskylä and its predecessors. The Art Collection donated by the lawyer Jorma Tissari is on display in the Seminarium Building too. The collection represents Finnish mordernism of the 13 different artists.

Service hours and locations

Soihtu Exhibition Centre is open for visitors:

Wed to Fri 12 am to 5 pm
Sat 12 am to 4 pm

The Tissari collection is open to the public only when Tissari hall is not being used for teaching.

Soihtu Exhibition Centre is located in Seminarium, S Building, on the Seminaarinmäki Campus area. Guided tours for groups via advance booking can be arranged also outside opening hours. The fee for guided tours outside opening hours is 80 euros.

Building accessibility

Parking

Accessible parking. Accessible parking on the Building A side. No marked space.

Entrance

Partly inaccessible. Entrance from the back of the building, along a ramp from the Building A- side. The door threshold about 50 mm, door width 690 mm, beside a separately opening additional door.

Lift

Accessible. 12 metres forward from the door, a sliding-door lift on the right. Lift car size 1410 x 1000 mm.

WC

Accessible WC. On the first floor, to the right from the lift and through the hall to the left about 8 metres, on the left at the end of the corridor.

Permanent Exhibition “Oh Imaginations and Fancies”

Entrance: Partly inaccessible. Doorway to the exhibition: double doors; staff is happy to assist with opening them. When the doors are open, the doorway is approx. 1750 mm wide. The door has a threshold of about 30 mm.
Part of Exhibition: Partly inaccessible. Inside the exhibition there is a section that can be reached either via a corridor, with the narrowest point being approx. 90 mm, or through a doorway that is approx. 870 mm wide and has a threshold of about 50 mm.

Kipinä Gallery

Entrance: Partly inaccessible.
Doorway to the exhibition: double doors; staff is happy to assist with opening them. When the doors are open, the doorway is approx. 1100 mm wide. The door has a threshold of about 30 mm.

Tissari Hall

Entrance: Partly inaccessible. The doorway to the exhibition is approx. 870 mm wide. The door has a threshold of about 30 mm.

The Exhibition Centre Soihtu provides you an introduction to the history of the University of Jyväskylä and its predecessors. The permanent exhibition gives you knowledge of the cultural-history continuum of the University of Jyväskylä.

The Art Collection donated by lawyer Jorma Tissari is on display in the Seminarium Building too. The collection represents Finnish mordernism of the 13 different artists of the 1900s.

In addition to the main exhibition, there are temporary thematic exhibitions.

Soihtu Exhibition Centre for visiting groups

Guided tours and study visits should always be reserved in advance. Please book a tour two weeks prior to your visit. Each tour can be designed individually to meet your wishes.

The guided tours are free of charge during the opening hours of the Exhibition Center.

Outside opening hours, the price for a tour is 80 € / hour + vat 25,5% per group of up to 30 people.

Guided Campus Tours

The campus features a unique built heritage, including the buildings of Finland’s first teacher training college, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Aalto campus, and an award-winning library. Visitors can explore the campus independently or join a guided tour arranged by us.

Price: € 80 + VAT 25,5 % /starting hour/group max. 30 persons. After 6 pm € 120 + VAT 25,5 % /starting hour and on weekends and on public holidays € 160 +VAT 25,5 % /starting hour.
JYU Groups (no VAT incl.) € 60/starting hour/group max. 30 persons. After 6 pm € 90/starting hour and on weekends and on public holidays € 120/starting hour.
