Explore our stage programme as well, where we will seek answers to the following questions: Can we slow down ageing, and can one song change the world? Discussions will held in Finnish.

  • Saturday 21.11. at 10.30 a.m. Silta-stage
Why do we age, and can we slow it down? Who will live the longest?
A discussion about Juulia Jylhävä’s new nonfiction book Miksi vanhenemme – Elinkaaren biologia tieteen valossa (Why we age: the biology of the life cycle in the light of science), which explores the biological mechanisms of aging and the latest findings in longevity research.
Interviewer: alumni coordinator Heli Mäki. In collaboration with the Association of Finnish Non-fiction Writers.

  • Saturday 21.11. at 11.00 a.m. Valo-stage
Can a Single Song Change the World?
What does recent research reveal about the relationship between music and politics? The anthology Sävelten voima ja sitkeys (The power and resilience of melodies), which brings together the fields of music, politics, and history, demonstrates that music has been used throughout history as both a tool and a target of politics. We’ll be talking with Simo Mikkonen, one of the book’s editors, about why one melody can unite a nation while another sparks a social movement.
Interviewer: alumni coordinator Heli Mäki. In collaboration with the Association of Finnish Non-fiction Writers.
