Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions about the next steps after receiving an admission letter.

First steps after admission

A conditional admission means that your application to our bachelor's degree programme has been accepted and you are now being offered a study place with a condition.

Admission can be conditional based on two possible reasons:

You have applied based on an unfinished qualification.
Information regarding your educational background cannot be verified from national databases.

In order for your admission to become unconditional (final), you need to deliver us necessary information regarding your educational background.

You must accept your study place on Studyinfo by 10 July 2025 at 3:00 p.m. (EEST). Otherwise, you will lose it. You will receive an automated email with a personal link that will direct you to Studyinfo to accept your study place.

After accepting an offer on Studyinfo, you cannot cancel it or change your choice. Please also note that, in Finland, you may accept only one study place leading to a higher education degree in education that begins in the same academic term. Once you have accepted an offer, all other study programmes that you have applied for and that begin in Finland during the autumn term of 2025 will be cancelled automatically. This also includes programmes that were not part of the spring joint application.

You will receive your tuition fee invoice (if applicable) and be able to register as a student only after formally accepting your study place and after your admission is no longer conditional.

How to accept a study offer

Yes, you can apply for a residence permit even if your admission is still conditional.

In fact, the process of getting a residence permit can take some time and therefore it's important to start the process as soon as you have received an admission letter.

Each student pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree must formally register for attendance or non-attendance for each academic year.

The registration for the academic year of 2025–2026 must be completed by 15 August 2025 at 3:00 p.m. (EEST). Students registering for attendance must join the Student Union and pay the Student Union membership fee.

It is possible to postpone the start of your studies by one academic year by registering for non-attendance for the academic year of 2026–2027. However, according to the Universities Act, there are only certain pressing reasons for which a student can register for non-attendance during their first academic year.

Confirm your study place and register

If you have Finnish online banking credentials (with the identification feature), a MobilePay account, or one of the accepted credit cards, you can register and pay the Student Union membership fee payment in the OILI system (accessed through Studyinfo).

If you cannot use OILI, you can pay the Student Union membership fee payment as a bank transfer. In this case, you are required to send the payment receipt to the Student Service Desk by 15 August 2025 at 3:00 p.m. (EEST). They will then complete the registration process for you.

First, please make sure that you have registered as an attending student, which you will be able to do after accepting your study place and, if applicable, paying the tuition fee. If you are a conditionally admitted student, you can only register after your admission is no longer conditional.

After registering, you should have received an automatic email containing a link to the identification service. If you have Finnish online banking credentials with the identification feature, you will be able to identify yourself by using those. However, if you don’t have these credentials, you will be directed to the Signicat system. If the identification fails for any reason, please contact identification@jyu.fi to begin the manual identification process.

First, you need register for attendance (i.e. pay the Student Union membership fee).

If you paid with OILI: you will receive an automated email with instructions on how to get you JYU user account within a week after registering for attendance.

If you made a bank transfer: we will send you a confirmation email once we have received the payment. After this you will receive an automated email with the instructions within a week.

When you create a JYU user account, you will also get a JYU student email address.

If it's been more than a week since you paid/ got a confirmation that we have received your payment and you haven't received the email, please contact identification@jyu.fi and they will help you.

Student card & student housing

First, make sure you have paid the Student Union membership fee (i.e. registered for attendance).

After you have paid the Student Union membership fee (i.e. registered for attendance) and your study right has begun (on 1 August), you can apply for a student card and register yourself in the Frank app to get a digital student card.

In other words, you can apply for a student card on 1 August, at earliest.

If you are accepted to study at JYU, you can apply for student housing. Please note that you can apply for housing even if your admission is still conditional.

In Jyväskylä, there are two student housing providers: Soihtu and KOAS.

Please note that if you are under 18 years old when you start the studies in Finland, you are legally a minor. Therefore, housing providers can ask for your guardian's signature or consent to rental agreements.
