Research at FIER
Researchers at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research (FIER) analyse the whole education system, from primary to higher education, adult learning and the relationship between education and working life. Researchers are also interested in learning outside the education system, such as in the world of work and online environments.
Research in education is an international activity. For example, the PISA study and other international assessment studies have put Finnish schools at the centre of the world's attention. Researchers are also involved in international education development projects in different countries.

We conduct research in four research areas. Get to know our research, research projects and researchers through these areas.
Through research, we aim to develop education in a way that takes into account the goals of responsibility and sustainability and promotes fair and wise social development.
The publications of the Finnish Institute for Educational Research (FIER) are available in English in online forums.
