Courses for exchange students / School of Business and Economics

The basic level courses marked with ALL on the course programme are available for exchange students from other faculties. Most of the other courses are only offered for students registered at the School of Business and Economics (JSBE) due to prerequisites and limited group sizes.

Exchange students of the Faculty of Information Technology studying a business and economics degree (e.g. Business Information Systems) may choose intermediate courses which are not open for students from other faculties. In some cases, students from other faculties can be accepted, but only if they fill the prerequisites and there are places available. JSBE's own students (degree and exchange) always have priority to JSBE courses. 

For the advanced level courses (Master's level), you should have completed a Bachelor's degree and have intermediate-level studies in the field of the course. In some cases (for example if you are doing a 4-year Bachelor's degree in your home country) advanced level Bachelor's students can be accepted, if they have strong study background in the required field and if there are places available.

Being a Master's level student does not automatically give you access to all Master's level courses, as you should have background studies in the particular field. For example, for Finance courses you need to have background in Finance. 

Exchange students from other faculties do not have the study right to take any Master's level courses or Master's level independent study options.

The courses offered by JSBE's international Master's degree programmes (BIF, CEM, DMCC, IBE, RESPO) offer very few places for exchange students, due to specific study background requirements and small group sizes. The timetables are programme-specific, so courses from different programmes will clash.  

Prerequisites are the background study requirements for a course.

Please check the prerequisites from the course descriptions and see whether or not you have sufficient background for participating the course, before registering for it or adding it to your learning agreement. This is particularly important for Master's level courses. 

The study backgrounds of exchange students are checked based on the home university transcript that is sent along with your application to the University of Jyväskylä. Therefore it is important that your transcript includes all the courses you have completed at your home university. Master's level students should always include also the transcript of their  Bachelor's degree.

If the transcript you send to us with your application is missing some courses that will be registered later on and you think are relevant as prerequisites for the courses you are planning to take, then please send the new transcript to us as soon as possible.
