Degree students - How to apply for student housing

As a degree student, you can apply for student housing directly through the KOAS or Soihtu websites. If your studies start at the beginning of the autumn semester, we recommend you apply for a room/apartment from 1 August or earlier, as housing availability is limited at that time of year. The earlier you apply the better your chances for securing accommodation are.

Please note that student housing is not guaranteed to all applicants, and you may also want to consider alternative options outside of student housing, especially in the autumn semester.

Exchange students - How to apply for furnished student housing

The University of Jyväskylä has reserved a limited quota of furnished studio and shared apartments for exchange students from the Central Finland Student Housing Foundation (KOAS) and Kortepohja Student Village and Soihtu.

Exchange students can apply for furnished student housing in the exchange application form during the exchange application period. For more information about the exchange application period, please visit this website.

Provided they apply in time, priority in furnished housing is given to exchange students admitted for a full academic year, students from FORTHEM partner universities and from Ukraine, and students participating in the following exchange programmes: Bilateral, Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility, and ISEP. Please note that Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility and Erasmus+ are considered two separate mobility programmes. After priority groups, Mobility‑Online assigns each housing applicant with a system‑generated and random-based number, and the remaining housing applications are processed in ascending order until all available furnished student apartments have been assigned.

Exchange students who have applied for furnished student housing will be informed of the housing application results by the end of May 2026 (autumn semester & academic year) / mid-November 2026 (spring semester).

Please note that the number of available apartments is limited and therefore, furnished student housing cannot be guaranteed for everyone. This is especially true in the autumn semester. We strongly recommend you look for alternative options outside of furnished student housing (more information in the "looking for an apartment on your own" section of this website). Most students coming for the spring semester can be placed in furnished student housing. If you are able to choose the timing of your exchange period, we highly recommend you consider coming to the University of Jyväskylä for the spring semester.

Please note that the preferences for furnished student housing will be taken into consideration but cannot be guaranteed due to the limited number of apartments available. Please note that your housing application result does not affect your exchange application.

Visiting students, trainees, and staff - How to apply for furnished student housing
