What is a student tutor?

For each semester, the University and Student Union JYY train student tutors to help new students (tutees) acquaint with the system of studies and campus life in Jyväskylä and with different practical matters. All new students get a tutor if they have applied to the University of Jyväskylä within the application deadlines.

Student tutors are available for students who arrive at the beginning of the semesters (August and January). Tutors will contact you two weeks before your recommended arrival date at the latest.

Tutors may assist international students with e.g. the following tasks:

  • Communicating with tutees before, during, and after their arrival
  • Meeting tutees on arrival and escorting them to their student apartments
  • Accompanying tutees to orientation and organising campus, library, and city tours
  • Assisting with course registration
  • Organising getting-to-know-you activities and opportunities to connect with other students
  • Helping with services within and outside the campus area (International Office, Student Services, Student Union, DVV, Migri, banks, etc.)
