Pay your tuition fee
Table of contents
The amount of tuition fee varies between different international degree programmes at the University of Jyväskylä. Students who have received the 50% JYU Scholarship are required to pay only half of the tuition fee normally required in their programme. The tuition fee required from you is stated in your Letter of Admission.
The payment instructions will be sent to you after you have accepted your study place and submitted your scholarship acceptance form. You must pay the tuition fee for the entire first academic year before you can register for attendance. Please note that the payment must be made with no charges to the beneficiary, meaning that you are responsible for paying the transaction costs your bank may charge.
The deadline for making the payment is 31 July 2025.
The primary payment method is online payment form. Payment is possible via:
- Finnish online banks
- Credit/Debit cards: Visa, Mastercard
- Mobile payments: Google Pay and Apple Pay
Information about alternative payment methods in case you are not able to use the online payment form will be sent in the payment instructions.
Please note that you don’t need to pay the tuition fee to apply for a residence permit. Instead of a receipt of the payment, you can attach proof that you have the necessary funds in your account. We also highly recommend you apply for a residence permit while your admission is still conditional. JYU will notify the Finnish Immigration Service in case a conditional admission is cancelled.
You can register for attendance only after your payment has been received; and, in case of a conditional admission, only after your admission is no longer conditional. The tuition fee must be paid every year before registering for attendance for the next academic year or semester. Tuition-paying students are not required to pay the tuition fee for semesters during which they are registered for non-attendance at JYU. Please note, however, that according to the Universities Act, a student may register for non-attendance during the first year of studies for the following reasons only:
- The student is carrying out military or non-military service according to the Conscription Act (1438/2007), the Non-Military Service Act (1446/2007), or the Act on Women’s Voluntary Military Service (194/1995);
- The student is on maternity, paternity, or parental leave; or
- The student is unable to start the studies due to personal illness or injury/disability.
The expected duration of a Bachelor's degree is three years and of a Master’s degree at JYU is two years. Please note, that if your studies take longer, you will be required to pay the tuition fee for each semester during which you study, and also for the semester during which the degree is conferred to you.
Before making the payment, please read the terms and conditions of tuition fee liability, fee payment, and return policy.
