Our aim is that your studies at Movi go as smoothly as possible and are accessible for you. At Movi, you are not alone with your possible questions or challenges.

Movi aims to encourage and support the learning of each student. If you feel that you need individual arrangements, please inform your course teachers in advance. Together you can discuss about alternative ways of studying and completing assignments that best suit you.

Movi's instructions for students

What kinds of individual arrangements can be made on a Movi's course and how is creating safer and braver space done in teaching groups at Movi?

You may get individual arrangements if you have special needs regarding studying. The point of individual arrangements is to find solutions that promote the fluency of studies during your entire study path.

Contact the teacher in charge of the course well in advance, if

you have special needs related to studying (e.g., dyslexia or other diagnosed learning disorder, visual or hearing impairment, fear of social situations) or
individual study arrangements have already been made and you want them to be taken into account when completing communication and language studies.

Together with the teacher, you should prepare a study plan for the course (e.g., completion methods and aids) and agree on how to inform the other course teachers.

The individual practical arrangements related to communication and language studies are agreed with the responsible teacher.
Alternative study arrangements do not affect the course evaluation.

Typical questions or issues related to learning challenges

Contact the course teacher and talk about your situation. If you have documentation of dyslexia, present it to the teacher. With a certificate, you can get, for example, more time for exams. You can also agree with your teacher on other practical arrangements related to your learning.

You can also contact your faculty's Goodies or Student Life services and discuss different support alternatives (e.g. dyslexia testing).

Contact your faculty's Goodies. They provide counselling as well as information on how you can enhance your well-being or study skills, and what kind of peer support groups, courses, and workshops aimed at improving study capacity are available.

Student Life also offers enhanced guidance if you require specialized and more intensive support. The guidance primarily involves discussions where, together, you explore new ways of thinking and acting, develop study and life skills, promote strengths and agency, aiming for smoother progress in studies and daily life.

Performance anxiety is more common than you think, as up to 99% of university students are nervous about giving a presentation. Discuss your performance-related challenges with the teacher and agree on possible individual performing methods. These can include, for example, giving an introduction of a study-related topic or presenting your work only to the teacher or a few peers, or doing the presentation only on video.

Movi also organises other support methods for performance anxiety, such as courses on performance confidence, which deal with stage fright in a variety of ways and teach you ways to relieve stress.

Sometimes performance anxiety is also accompanied by a fear of social situations. Contact the course teacher early on and talk about your situation. A discussion with the teacher about possible alternative performing methods can help you to complete your studies. You can also contact Movi or your faculty's Goodies or turn to FSHS for help. Enhance your studies by practicing academic study skills. Academic study skills website focuses on the communication and language skills needed in your studies and work life. You can take a look at the site to better understand what study skills you already have and in which areas you can still improve. From the site, you can get support, for example, for writing and reading scientific texts, or receive tips for working in a group or managing your time.

Performance anxiety and fear of communicative situations

Feeling nervous in situations involving public speaking and group communication is quite common in university studies. Usually, this nervousness is not visible to others, although one might assume so based on internal feelings and thoughts. This is why it is not always apparent how common being nervous really is, which is why it might sometimes feel like you are the only one who is nervous.

Movi offers courses to support you in accepting and alleviating performance anxiety, and gives you opportunities to practice a wide range of communication situations. You do not have to know how to do everything straight away! When dealing with your own nervousness, it is important to accept yourself, including any feelings of unease.

Care and reading dogs on campus

Did you know that there are also dogs working on campus in order to enhance the wellbeing of students? The care and reading dog programme has proved to be very popular among students. During stressful study periods, for example, you can come and unwind by visiting and petting the dogs.
