Erasmus guide / School of Business and Economics

The guide lists the Erasmus student mobility partners of the School of Business and Economics.

Internationalisation in the international master's degree programmes

The international master's degree programmes don't include a mobility window. Therefore, there are no Erasmus exchange agreements that have been made specifically with the international programmes in mind, with the exception of the CEM programme, for which there is one specific agreement with the University of Graz in Austria.

You may go on exchange, but you should always discuss your plans with your academic coordinator first. Once the academic coordinator has approved your plans, you can

  1. Read more about the Erasmus exchange destinations in the Finnish version of this guide or
  2. Contact the international coordinator to find the suitable exchange destinations for you.

Please note that an exchange semester is likely to extend your studies. Exchange studies rarely replace compulsory courses included in your degree. If you are liable to pay the tuition fee, you will therefore pay at least one semester's additional tuition fee. If you have a scholarship from JYU, the exchange is not an acceptable reason to continue receiving the scholarship for the extended semesters. For example, if you go on exchange in the spring semester of your second year, you will most likely graduate in autumn semester of the next academic year.

For further information, please read the website Student exchange and internships for students liable to pay tuition fees.

Erasmus exchange destinations of JSBE

This guide lists the Erasmus exchange destinations of JSBE. The most up-to-date information is always available on the host university website.

The most popular exchange destinations among JSBE students are destinations in Portugal, Spain, Italy and France. We recommend that you apply to more than one destinations in the Erasmus application round. Students who have applied to only one destinations are not prioritized in the selection in any way.

The Erasmus exchange destinations of JSBE are open for all students of the faculty, as long as you can find suitable studies for your degree from the course selection of the host university. You can also choose to study courses that are not from your own field of specialization.

Please note that it is also possible to apply to Nordic destinations through the Nordplus (NOREK) network. JSBE also has two faculty-level bilateral exchnage destinations: Yonsei University in South Korea and Dalhousie University in Canada.

When searching for exchange destinations in the Mobility-Online application portal, you need to choose both the Study Area and the Study Field.

  • Most of the agreements are under Business Studies, but most destinations also offer courses in Economics.
  • The rest of the agreements are under Economics, but most destinations also offer courses in Business Studies.
  • It is possible to apply for exchange through both fields of study, if you fill in two separate applications.

We follow JYU's general selection criteria for student exchange.

“Tartu was a really nice city for the exchange. It is big enough to have all the services you need, but not too big so it is easy to move around and there wasn't disturbing big city fuzz. Tartu also has a nice city structure and historical background. Still it is an atmospheric and living young city. Estonia itself is safe, relatively highly developed and still quite affordable compared to many other European countries. Both the education and services had a high quality. Estonia also has interesting cultural, history and language and it is quite easy to explore Estonia during an exchange.”

“Finding accommodation was made easy. My host university sent me an email almost six months before my exchange with all the information about the topic “Finding accommodation in Berlin”. On the email they shared the link to the online registration for accommodation in student dormitories and single apartments. They also urged us to be quick, since places were limited. We had couple of choices to apply for, but I chose Studentendorf Schlachtensee. Eventually I got a single room from there with shared facilities.”

"Belfast is a medium city, albeit is full of live, with a wide offer to visit and for entertainment like bowling alleys, museums, libraries, traditional sports like hurling and others such as rugby, football, ice hockey... It's a city, like most in the Brittish Isles, full of pubs with a wide range of specialities, from very loud musical pubs, dance clubs, or quiet pubs where one can enjoy a relaxing evening and listen to traditional Irish folk music. Ireland in autumn is dark, cold and wet, but it's part of it's wonder. Quite on the contrary, the Irish people have a surprising warm, talkative and open charm to them, that makes one bond easily and make friends very quickly."

I think that was the most valuable thing to learn from this exchange. I also gained a lot of knowledge from my university courses and I feel the courses and developed English skills will benefit my career in the future. I also became way more independent during the exchange and learned how to cope in a foreign country that I didn't know beforehand. The Erasmus also boosted my confidence in many levels of life.”

“The most rewarding part of this exchange was the opportunity to visit another part of the world, with a completely different history, background and culture. Of course the food and the weather were fantastic compared to most places I have lived before. Sicily has thousands of years of history, monuments around every corner, mountainous terrain always within view, lots of sun and beaches all year round, the locals can be overwhelming at times, and the overall structure of society is much more loosely maintained, regulated and enforced. For the most part everyone I came across was friendly, helpful and outgoing.”
