A new student restaurant will open in Mattilanniemi

Compass Group’s restaurant services at Bistro Mattilanniemi will expand to include student meals for higher education students from 25 August 2025. Students will be able to enjoy lunch at student discount prices from Monday to Friday, between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM.

“We are delighted about the cooperation and the opportunity to serve delicious food to our growing customer base in Kielo’s welcoming atmosphere,” says Päivi Sieppi, Client Manager at Compass Group.

Nine student restaurants will operate on the campus of the University of Jyväskylä starting this autumn.

Semma’s long-running restaurant Maija, located in building A in Mattilanniemi, closed its doors at the end of May. The University of Jyväskylä will give up the property on 31 July 2025.

Timo Piispanen, Head of Facility Services at the University of Jyväskylä, is satisfied with the range of restaurants on campus.

“The University aims to provide students with dining options on all campuses, as well as the opportunity to choose their dining location,” says Piispanen. “The goal is to have several restaurants across different areas of the campus. This also makes it possible to adjust resources between quieter and busier times.”
