Would you like to meet people from around the world, learn about different cultures, share your own experiences of life in Finland, and maybe even make a lifelong friend? The University of Jyväskylä's Local Friendship Programme offers a unique opportunity to do all that.

The aim of the Local Friendship Programme is to increase cultural encounters within the University of Jyväskylä's sphere of influence. For international students, the programme is a unique and concrete opportunity to gain an insight into Finnish culture, to practice the Finnish language and to experience life in Finland through an experienced local friend. In turn, local friends learn about the student's home country, culture and language. The programme is low commitment, flexible and shaped by your shared interests.

Matching will take place during the autumn, and the programme is expected to start later in October 2026. Participants are encouraged to stay in touch and meet regularly, with the programme continuing until May 2027. 

The JYU Local Friendship Programme has brought together international students and local people for more than twenty years, creating meaningful cultural exchanges and friendships that often last long after studies have ended. Welcome!
