Degrees completed in 2025: Congratulations to the 3,500 graduates!
The number of degrees increased from the previous year’s total of 3,321. In 2024, JYU awarded 1,768 master’s degrees, 1,422 bachelor’s degrees and 131 doctoral degrees.
“The number bachelor’s and master’s degrees awarded has been rising for several years now, and this encouraging trend is continuing,” says Vice Rector Marja-Leena Laakso. “This great result is thanks to the whole staff. I would also like to thank our students for their hard work in achieving the significant goal of completing a degree.”

The degree targets agreed with the Ministry of Education and Culture for this agreement period are ambitious, so we must ensure that our degree programmes are built on the strengths of our multidisciplinary university and have an impact that will stand the test of time.”

The highest number of doctoral degrees were completed in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, with 42 degrees in each. The Faculty of Education and Psychology awarded 25 doctoral degrees, the Faculty of Information Technology 24, the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences 21 and the School of Business and Economics 13.
The highest number of master’s degrees, 493, was completed in the Faculty of Education and Psychology. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences had 472 master’s graduates, the Faculty of Information Technology 261 and the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences 233. The School of Business and Economics had 230 master’s graduates and the Faculty of Mathematics and Science 176.
The University’s degree targets for 2025–2028, agreed with the Ministry of Education and Culture, are on average 1,940 master’s degrees and 190 doctoral degrees per year. The average target for bachelor’s degrees is 1,750 per year.
