EXAM System Updated to Version 6.4.1 – New Features for Assessment and Usability

The EXAM system has been updated to version 6.4.1, and this update brings useful improvements for examiners.

  • Assessment is now more flexible: exam performance can be assessed based solely on the total points from the questions, without an overall exam grade. This is particularly useful for partial assessments where the final evaluation is done outside of EXAM.
  • Going forward, you can therefore:
  • Select either a grade or
    • You can select Only points (no grade) as the grade, in which case the student will see only the assessments for the tasks and the total points for the exam in EXAM.
    • You can also select Performance not assessed as the grade. In this case, the student will not be informed of the assessment and will not see their points either. Students can read written feedback on the "Assignments" tab of their own EXAM dashboard.

The new "Support Person" role facilitates EXAM support: a support person can view teachers’ exams and students’ reservations and assist in problem situations. Support Person roles are managed by the administrator. The Support Person role can be useful for, among others, Education Coordinators in various subjects.

Usability and accessibility have improved in both the student and teacher views, particularly regarding keyboard use.

The Tentaattori weekly message will now also include assignments for which grading has begun but has not been locked. However, the message will not be sent if there is nothing to process in active exams. Please note that assessments should always be completed and locked so that exam submissions are not left incomplete and the information is also forwarded to students.

In addition, several technical fixes and background improvements have been made to EXAM.

As usual, you can find more information and support for using EXAM via the help.jyu.fi service.
