The FORTHEM Digital Academy is a shared virtual Moodle learning environment for the FORTHEM alliance universities. It offers the opportunity to study online courses from FORTHEM universities flexibly in an international environment. The course offering is diverse and covers many fields; some courses include live online teaching, while others are independent, self-paced study modules. Some FORTHEM Digital Academy courses have a separate application period and process, while others allow continuous enrollment.

Highlights from the FORTHEM Digital Academy course offering:

  • University of Agder: “Exploring Societal Art”, 2.5 ECTS. Application deadline: 1 February 2026
  • University of Agder: “Sustainable Education for Equity and Democracy”, 2.5 ECTS. Application deadline: 1 March 2026
  • University of Latvia: “Political Representation: From Theory to Practice”, 3 ECTS. Application deadline: 16 February 2026

You can explore the available Digital Academy courses and enroll through the JYU’s Moodle platform. Log in to Moodle with your JYU credentials and click the FORTHEM tab on the Moodle front page. When you want to enroll in a course and/or read more about it, select a suitable filter on the left side of the screen to access the “course card” and the course area. Please note the Digital Academy Moodle environment is not yet functioning optimally – you can access the course card only if at least one filter has been selected. If the workload or the number of credits for a course is known, the completed course can be recognized as part of your degree at JYU (e.g., 1 ECTS = 25–27 hours of study). Not all courses award ECTS credits.
