European Researchers’ Night opens the doors to the fascinating world of science, making research accessible to all. It offers a wide range of experiences and engaging activities from various fields of study, from history to biology and physical education.
The University of Jyväskylä’s programme takes place across all three campuses: Seminaarinmäki, Mattilanniemi and Ylistönrinne. The JYU event offers visitors the chance to try their hand at news reporting, examine their muscles using ultrasound imaging, and discover what actually makes music sound like music. In the university’s laboratories, you can also find out what role microscopic bacteriophages play in our lives.
The main campus of Jamk University of Applied Sciences on Rajakatu offers surprising experiments and new experiences. You will be able to explore different gaming and XR technologies as well as the safe and sustainable use of mobile technologies, and learn to protect yourself from cyberthieves. You can also find out how AI can help with back pain, and get to know how drones are used in smart farming.
This year’s theme for European Researchers’ Night is curiosity. Curiosity can help us find new perspectives and better understand the world around us. Researchers’ Night is an excellent opportunity to embrace curiosity and learn something new.
The atmosphere of Researchers’ Night is further enriched by collaboration with the City of Light festival, which begins on the same evening. Visitors can therefore enjoy both the excitement of science and enchantment of light art in a single evening. One of the highlights will be the Ylistö Bridge, above which the work of light art Salamataivas (Lightning Sky) will illuminate the night sky. Jamk is participating in the City of Light festival for the first time. The grounds of its main campus will host Let’s Draw, a truly exceptional installation that invites visitors to become co-creators by contributing to the artwork themselves.
The event is free and open to all.
Because of the large number of visitors and the limited parking facilities on the campuses, the parking lots are likely to become crowded during the event. Visitors are warmly encouraged to arrive on foot, by bicycle or by public transport.
