Moniviestin is an online video publishing platform originally developed at the University of Jyväskylä in 2003. There are currently around 67 000 videos on the site, with over 300 000 page views per month.

The new version of Moniviestin will be released on Tue 12.8.2025 alongside the current one, offering a first-class user experience, high-quality automatic transcription for everybody, a redesigned media player and much, much more!

The previous content will temporarily continue to work as before, but essential content should be marked for migration by the summer of 2026.

Content producers can easily mark what essential content they want to keep in the future. The flagged content will be automatically transferred to the new Moniviestin. Automatic transfers will start later in autumn 2025 and will be announced separately.

The reform will allow us to start with a clean slate. It is not wise to move everything from the old to the new environment. It will also allow for a significant streamlining of the navigation structure. Therefore, the flagging for migration will be done on a programme-by-programme basis.

Timetable for the renewal

  • From July to August, the service will be tested, features will be refined and guidelines will be created.
  • From Tue 12.8.2025 the new site will appear at the familiar address https://moniviestin.jyu.fi
  • From Tue 12.8.2025, the new Programs will only be created in the new Moniviestin.
    • The content of existing programmes can still be edited and new media can be added to the old one.
  • On the old site, migration is possible, i.e. users can easily mark their programmes for automatic transfer to the new site.
    • The actual migration will not start until later in the autumn and will be announced separately
  • All previous embeddings, e.g. in Moodle, will work as before, regardless of whether they have been migrated to the new site or are still visible in the old one.
  • The current, i.e. future old, Moniviestin will remain in use for about a year until the migration is completed in an orderly manner.

The video support team from digital services will provide enhanced support and guidance throughout the autumn. The new Moniviestin will also continue to be developed and refined during the autumn.

Note: The content of your Own folder will not be transferred to the new one - it will now also be automatically deleted for 180 days. If you want to keep the content, you can do so by manually downloading the video and uploading them to the new Moniviestin.
