Where can I find textbooks? How can I get a library card?
When you need a textbook, go to JYKDOK database. There you can see which books we have and where you can find them. Textbooks, as well as field-specific literature, are located on the lower basement floor of Lähde. Our staff will help you when needed.
Many of our textbooks are available as e-books, and you can find them via JYKDOK. When you log in to JYKDOK with your JYU user account,
you can access e-books and other e-materials. E-books can usually be downloaded on a laptop or mobile device. Tips for using e-books can be found on our help page.
You can borrow printed books as soon as you have obtained your library card. The easiest way is to activate a mobile library card in the MyJYU app. The card is immediately available to you and no visit to the library is required. When the library card starts to work, you can renew your loans and make reservations on books that are on loan for someone else.
Working spaces and computers
There is plenty of workspace in Lähde, including reading areas, workstations and group work spaces. You can book group work rooms in Navi application. Silent reading rooms are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
More workspace can be found in other University buildings. You can find space for study and group work, for example, on the 1st floor of the Main Building (C Building). You can enter the facilities even outside opening hours with an access key card. To apply for one, please contact the Student Union Office. In the Main Building you can also find Aalto Library, which is a self-service reading room for quiet study. The Library’s reference collection is located there.
Several of the University’s buildings have computer classrooms, which can be used whenever there are no lessons. You can use your own laptop since there is a wireless network on the campus area.
Get to know the library
If you are a new degree student, you can join a library tour at the beginning of your studies. Tutors book a suitable time for their groups. Ask your tutor when your group's tour is taking place!
In Moodle learning environment you can find Library Start-up, which helps you learn the basics of library use and information seeking.
