Opportunities for lifelong learning — FULL network at FORTHEM alliance

FULL FORTHEM University Lifelong Learning Network has been actively operating for over three years. FULL network was established officially within the FORTHEM Alliance in 2023. It includes and connects all continuing education units and centres from nine FORTHEM universities. The members of the FULL network represent nine countries: from France Université de Bourgogne (uB), from Germany Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz (JGU), from Italy Università degli Studi di Palermo (UNIPA), from Latvia Latvijas Universitāte (UL), from Norway Universitetet i Agder (UiA), from Poland Uniwersytet Opolski (UO),  from Romania Universitatea Lucian Blaga din Sibiu (ULBS) and from Spain Universitat de València (UV).

Center for Lifelong Learning — ZWW of JGU as initiator of tandem courses

FULL network with ZWW of Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz as initiator, implemented language tandem courses for 50 + persons. Tandem course means that two or three universities design and implement the course together. All tandem courses were successful and enabled participants to have a language exchange. Language tandem courses the main purpose was for participants to practice their oral skills in the language and to promote a European understanding and feeling of togetherness of people from different cultures, intensifying intercultural contact between participants.

Furthermore, an AI (Artificial Intelligence) tandem course was designed by Uniwersytet Opolski, Latvijas Universitāte and Universitatea Lucian Blaga din Sibiu with the title “Gamification in the Learning Process and Interactive Teaching Methodologies”. The course aimed to prepare teachers and trainers to conduct classes using interactive business games to increase the effectiveness and appeal of classes like economics, entrepreneurship, management, and business English. The interest in this tandem course was very high.

Erasmus + Mobility for adult learners

To enhance the learning experiences and to foster further cultural exchange between the participants of the tandem courses, JGU Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz will offer mobility to elder learners. JGU will utilize Erasmus + mobility funding for elderly for the first time in the autumn of 2024.

The prospective Erasmus+ mobility resulting from the FORTHEM activities will enhance the learning experience of attending the tandem courses, giving new face-to-face learning opportunities to elder learners, offering cultural exchange across borders. The mobility project will also contribute to inclusion and equal opportunities by taking into particular consideration learners with socio-economic disadvantages and special needs. The Erasmus+ mobility for staff and learners will boost the outputs of the tandem courses while also affording the specific target group of elder learners new learning opportunities.

Furthermore, FULL network established the FOR EU Inter-Alliance Lifelong Learning network in June 2023. University of Jyväskylä and Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz welcomes all University Lifelong Learning stakeholders and activities from all existing European Universities Alliances to join the FOR EU Inter-Alliance Lifelong Learning network.
