Owners of Jamk University of Applied Sciences have decided to sell majority stake to the University of Jyväskylä

At its meeting on 3 November 2025, the Jyväskylä City Council decided to sell the majority share of Jamk University of Applied Sciences to the University of Jyväskylä, in accordance with the University’s earlier purchase offer.

The sale of the majority ownership stake of Jamk University of Applied Sciences to the University of Jyväskylä will be carried out for EUR 2,250,000. The City of Jyväskylä will sell 50.6% of Jamk’s share capital while retaining a 39.4% ownership stake in Jamk. The price per share is therefore EUR 27,778.

In addition, the Board of the City of Jämsä and the Äänekoski Federation of Municipalities for Vocational Education (Poke) have approved the purchase offers. The City of Jämsä and Poke will sell their 5% ownership stakes to the University of Jyväskylä for EUR 220,000.

If the acquisition is completed, the University of Jyväskylä will become the majority owner of Jamk University of Applied Sciences with a 60.6% ownership stake.

Since the beginning of May 2025, the City of Jyväskylä and the University of Jyväskylä have been negotiating the possible sale of the ownership stake of Jamk University of Applied Sciences to the University. The acquisition is planned to take place at the turn of the year 2025–2026.
