Puhkupillit won gold at the Finnish Championships for Wind Orchestra!
The orchestra is conducted by Maiju Rajala and Lassi Takanen. The event featured a total of 26 orchestras and 1016 musicians. Five orchestras competed in the A division, eleven in B, eight in C, and two in the open division. In the A division, Ruoholahti All Stars placed second, and Aura Wind Band came in third.
In addition to the gold medal, Puhkupillit was awarded for the best performance of the required piece. Each orchestra performed a program that included one newly composed required piece and at least one freely chosen piece from their own repertoire. The required piece in the A division was Dreamer's Wind by Rolf Gustavson. The top three orchestras in each division received a cash prize in addition to their medals.
The wind orchestra Puhuri, part of Gradia’s basic art education program, won silver with top scores in the B division. Puhuri is conducted and coached by Gradia’s trumpet teacher, Lassi Takanen.
