Riitta and Jorma J. Takanen Foundation and the University of Jyväskylä launch cooperation to commercialise research innovations
“The purpose of our Foundation is to support competitive innovations, internationalisation, and research in the central and northern regions of Finland,” says Jonna Tolonen, Chair of the Foundation’s Board. “We see great potential in the University of Jyväskylä’s multidisciplinary research. In honor of our twentieth anniversary, we are proud to launch a long-term collaboration.”
The Rector of the University of Jyväskylä Jari Ojala greatly appreciates the new cooperation with the Foundation originating from Northern Ostrobothnia.
“It’s a long way from an initial idea into a final product or service, and researchers need support along this journey,” explains Rector Ojala. “The Takanen Foundation’s vision and commitment to supporting researchers who produce innovations is admirable, and I hope it serves as an encouraging example for other supporters of science as well.”
As the first concrete step in the cooperation, the Board of Riitta and Jorma J. Takanen Foundation decided to donate 40,000 euros in support of the University’s research in natural sciences and product development. The support is focused on a research project led by Professor Perttu Permi, which combines structural biology and biophysics in the search for treatments for infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The funding from the Takanen Foundation helps to develop ideas into products and to test the commercial potential of treatments.
The founders of Scanfil Oyj, Riitta and Jorma J. Takanen established the Foundation in 2005 to promote and support expertise in the technology industry and international competitiveness.
