The exhibition, which opens on 3 March on the fourth floor of the main building of the University of Jyväskylä, will showcase the work and creations of the drawing room, which began operating in the autumn, throughout March.

The drawing room´s open Tuesdays have invited university students and staff to pause and percieve, and to deepen their drawing skills. The activity began with classical plaster drawing and has expanded during the academic year to include more experimental methods of drawing and croquis work. The sessions include short introductions and personal guidance on materials, techniques and drawing questions. The drawing room, which is free of charge for university students and staff, is led by Joonas Suomalainen-Sallinen, a doctoral researcher in art education.

The exhibition showcases drawing processes ranging from quick sketches to studies that took several hours to complete. In these works, the significance of drawing as a tool for thinking, research and bildung has taken concrete form – both as part of the university's traditions and its current mission.

Welcome to the drawing room!
