The application round is open for FORTHEM collective and individual short-term mobilities that take place between March and August 2026

Going for a semester-long student exchange isn't a feasible option for you but you still would like to study abroad? Short-term mobilities are a good opportunity to internationalize in a shorter time.

Collective Short-Term Mobility

FORTHEM collective short-term mobilities (cSTM) are intensive programmes organised by our FORTHEM partner universities. Check the list of courses that are offered this time from here, ->under the titles Programmes available -> March 2026 - August 2026.

Individual Short-Term Mobilities

Students can also go on an individual short-term mobility (iSTM) to a FORTHEM university. The programme enables students to carry out an individual research stay of five days at a FORTHEM university. During the individual mobility, the student will be supported by a mentoring professor from the host university. Students have to organise their stay themselves, from  developing the topic of their visit, finding a mentoring professor to organising their travel and accommodation. Note that finding a mentor is a prerequisite for the application but it does not guarantee that you will be selected for the iSTM.

Funding

The selected students will receive a FORTHEM grant to help covering the approximate costs of your travel, accommodation and living expenses while abroad during your cSTM or iSTM. More information on the scholarship can be found here.

General information

- You can apply for a maximum of two mobilities during the same application period.

- You can participate to a maximum of two FORTHEM collective short-term and two FORTHEM individual short-term mobilities per degree level.

- Those who have not participated in a FORTHEM mobility previously will be given priority.

- It is not possible to participate to a short-term mobility while you are on a student exchange.

- You must be an attending JYU student during the mobility. After graduation, it is not possible to attend the mobilities.

- After the mobility you need to apply for recognition of your cSTM or iSTM in Sisu.
