Yes we do! In May this year the new masters and doctors gather together to celebrate their degrees in the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony. The Conferment of Degrees Ceremony is the largest celebration in the university community, where the new Masters and Doctors will be given their degree in the ceremonial Act of Conferment, and will receive a laurel garland and Master’s ring or a Doctor’s hat and sword as the sign of it. Distinguished persons will also be appointed as honorary doctors in the ceremony.

The Conferment of Degrees Ceremony is a celebration of light, hope and the future, which, through centuries-old traditions, celebrates the impact and power of research. The Finnish tradition of the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony is based on an almost 800-year-old European tradition. The three-day celebration, which takes place in May, includes many events based on academic traditions, from sword sharpening to Degree Ceremony dinner and ball.

All Masters and Doctors from all faculties of the University of Jyväskylä can participate in the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony. To participate in the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony in May, you must have graduated no later than January 2023.

Now is your last chance to sign up for the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony on 19-21.5.2023! Register here. (Registration closes February 1. 2023.)
