Top expertise and innovations – the University of Jyväskylä recruits 85 new doctoral researchers

The purpose of the doctoral education pilot is to develop more effective and efficient doctoral education to meet society’s growing demand for trained researchers in the workforce. In March and April, the University of Jyväskylä offers altogether 85 vacancies for doctoral researchers in ten field-specific pilot projects in, for example, natural sciences, education and information technology.

The doctoral education pilot 2024–2027 is an extension of researcher training funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The national pilot aims at reforming and expanding doctoral education in a sustainable fashion so that it can better respond to the needs of society and the labour market, enhance Finland’s international competitiveness and secure the availability of competence. At the same time, prerequisites are created for innovations emerging from research.

The University of Jyväskylä received altogether 85 vacancies for doctoral researchers in ten field-specific doctoral education pilots, which are conducted within consortiums consisting of several universities. The jobs will start on 1 August 2024 or 1 January 2025.

The purpose of the national doctoral education pilot is to increase the number of top experts, that is, holders of a doctoral degree, in Finland. The field-specific pilots are designed to create new practices for doctoral education, which make it possible to complete a doctoral dissertation within three years and support the employment of doctoral graduates largely in the public and private sector.

The first calls for the doctoral researcher vacancies were launched on 11 March 2024. More positions will be opened for applications during March and April 2024.
