Turnitin Draft Coach tool for Word

A new Turnitin tool is implemented to M365 Word, which allows degree students and staff to independently check the similarity of a Word documents to sources in the Turnitin database, for example before final submissions. In Draft Coach you can check citations and grammar.

Turnitin Draft Coach is implemented at the University of Jyväskylä on 15th March 2024. Degree students and staff can use Turnitin Draft Coach in Word via a browser, for example before submitting an assignment, publication or thesis.

How to use Turnitin Draft coach:

  1. Open for example a Chrome or Edge browser 
  2. Go to office365.jyu.fi 
  3. Log in with your Microsoft user account username@jyu.fi 
  4. Authenticate using Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA) 
  5. Open Word and the document you want from the M365 applications

Note! Draft Coach is only available in the browser version of M365 Word. Draft Coach is not available in the desktop version.

You can start writing a new document in Word or upload a file created elsewhere to the M365 cloud service. After a short delay, Turnitin will automatically appear in the tools at the top of the Word document and by selecting Draft Coach you can access its tools. At the first time you will have to accept Turnitin EULA. You can self-check the similarity of a single document up to three times. The text is not submitted in Turnitin's database. Draft Coach generates a Turnitin similarity report that shows the similarities between texts in the Turnitin database.

Draft Coach can also check all citations in the English text, points out citations without references and guide you through the corrections. Draft Coach can also be used to correct grammar in an English text.
