Welcome to the Opening of the Academic Year – Enrollments for the events now open

The Opening of the Academic Year is part of the University’s academic traditions. Its roots can be traced back to the time of Uno Cygnaeus, when the opening of the new Teacher Seminary—the first Finnish-language seminary in Finland—was celebrated on 14 August 1863. The opening of the academic year is completely free of charge for all members of the Jyväskylä University community. The Opening of the Academic Year includes a series of events that are free of charge for all members of the JYU community, but some of the events require a registration.
The first day of the two-day festivities, Tuesday 2 September, is dedicated to students starting their studies. The event will give freshmen the chance to meet the university's rectors and various organizations, and of course meet new friends.
On Wednesday 3 September, the Rector will officially open the academic year in the opening ceremony, and the day will culminate in a concert by the lovely Diandra Flores and a cocktail reception.
On both days, there will also be a JYY programme at Ilokivi Venue: welcome to Speed Friending and Jyrock pre-club!
