Finnish Universities Network for Rehabilitation (FiRe)

The Multidisciplinary University Network for Rehabilitation (MOKUVE) and the Universities of Applied Sciences’ Expertise in Rehabilitation (OsKu) network have jointly established the Finnish Universities Network for Rehabilitation (FiRe). The aim of the network is to develop rehabilitation education and bring research-based knowledge to meet the needs of working life.

Promotion of rehabilitation research, education, and professional practices

Through joint research, education, and development efforts by higher education institutions, rehabilitation is strengthened nationally and the changing needs of working life are addressed with research-based knowledge. The network includes 25 Finnish higher education institutions.

Rehabilitation Education and Research in the Network’s Higher Education Institutions

The higher education institutions participating in the network offer a wide range of education that supports rehabilitation and conduct diverse and multidisciplinary research in the field. The network’s core group has discussed the definition of rehabilitation and decided to adopt the definition formulated by the Rehabilitation Reform Committee (2017), which states:

"Rehabilitation is a structured process based on the needs and goals of the rehabilitee, in which the individual maintains and promotes their functional and work capacity with the support of professionals. Rehabilitation includes the development of the rehabilitee’s environments. It strengthens the resources of the rehabilitee and their close network, supports independent living, employability, and social inclusion. Rehabilitation is part of the welfare service system and requires timely and seamless services and benefits from multiple actors."

Take a look at the types of rehabilitation education and research offered by the network’s higher education institutions.
