About research:
In my doctoral dissertation completed in 2025, I examined the poetics of the rap artist Cheek, who is one of the biggest phenomena in Finnish popular culture: the means of expression characteristic of rap poetry, meanings these generate, and their relationship to cultural wellbeing and the cultural discourses on mental health. In my research I also developed the concept of the poetics of resilience, which describes the resource-oriented features of rap. The methods of my research were an analysis of lyrics applying cognitive poetics and dialogic theme interviews co-produced with Jare Tiihonen.
My post doc -research plan is to examine the themes of mental diversity broadly in popular Finnish rap.
