Biography

I work as a science expert at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research and hold a PhD in Theoretical Physics. My work focuses on international large-scale assessments of learning outcomes, particularly TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), and on the use of their results to support educational development and policy.

In addition, I conduct research in theoretical nuclear physics, focusing on fundamental processes and physics beyond the Standard Model. This work is carried out in collaboration with international research institutions and scientific collaborations.

Research interests

My research focuses on education, particularly educational assessment and development through international large-scale assessments such as TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment). These studies assess and analyse educational outcomes and the state of education both internationally and within participating countries. They also examine a wide range of individual, educational, and societal factors associated with learning and achievement. My research particularly focuses on students' attitudes and motivation, educational equity, and the relationship between socioeconomic background and educational outcomes. In addition to international assessments, these research questions are also central to national educational research.

Second, I conduct research in theoretical nuclear physics, focusing on fundamental phenomena related to the structure of matter and the universe. My research interests include double beta decay, neutrino properties, and dark matter. This research is fundamental in nature and aims to deepen our understanding of the structure of matter and the universe, thereby providing a foundation for future scientific discoveries and technological breakthroughs.
