Biography

Teaching and Educational Responsibilities

I teach in the Faculty of Education, specialising in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC), with a particular focus on themes related to (pedagogical) expertise and (team) leadership in early childhood settings. My responsibilities also include collaboration around work-based placements in ECEC and training of placement supervisors.

In addition, I provide professional development for ECEC staff as an invited trainer at various events, as well as through continuing education programs organised by the Finnish National Agency for Education, particularly in the areas of ECEC and extended hours ECEC (Yes, in Finland we have ECEC centres that are open around the clock!). My training topics have included equality and inclusion, full-day pedagogy, planning and implementation of pedagogical activities, teamwork, leadership and shared leadership, and building a collaborative professional culture.

Research interests

Research interests

My research interests focus on:

  • Parents’ atypical working hours and their childcare and ECEC solutions
  • Various themes related to extended hours ECEC (pedagogy, teamwork, educational partnership)
  • Relational expertise, teamwork, and professional agency in early childhood work
  • Ethical questions and moral agency in leadership roles within ECEC

I am also involved in research projects examining:

  • The use of playgrounds by families with children in early childhood education
  • Pair work in thesis supervision

As a counterbalance to academic work, I guide sound bowl relaxation sessions through uMove and as an entrepreneur.
